PRAYER FOR AIRMEN
AUTHOR KILLED IN ACTION A prayer for airmen, written two days before his death in action last November, was found in the diary of Sub-Lieutenant W. F. Warner, of the Fleet Air Arm, when it was returned-, among other .personal effects, to, his' parents. Sub-Lieutenant Warner’s father is Mr F. S. H. Warner, headmaster of the Lyttelton District High School. The prayer, which may be sung to the tune of hymn 376. in Hymns Ancient and Modern, was given out at Anzac Day services at Lyttelton and Kaikoura, Many requests have been received by Mr Warner for the words of the prayer, which are as follows: Oh! God, who made the world to be Who made the life of land and sea, Oh! hear us in our earnest prayer, Protect Thy servants in the air. When storms of wind or men rise high, Be with them in the cloud-torn sky; And for the pain that Christ did bear, Protect Thy servants in the air. Give them the faith l that can inspire True courage like a leaping fire, That knowing Thee they may be there Thy loyal servants in the air. When Fear has lost its place to Love, And souls gaze with their eyes above. May Thou on high look down and spare Thy faithful servants in the air.
