The Hon. H. G. R. Mason, Minister of Education, accompanied by Mrs Mason, and Dr. C. E. Beeby, Director of Education, paid a visit on Wednesday to the Te Waipounamu Maori Girls’ College, where they were received by the principal, Miss H. Harding. and her assistant, Miss Kura Tahiwi. Mr George Frederick- Mason, formerly of Christchurch, has been admitted as an associate member of the Royal Institution of Aeronautical Engineers, London. Mr J. Barnett, who will to-day be elected president of the New Zealand Educational Institute, is headmaster of the Johnsonville School, Wellington. He was formerly treasurer of the institute. Mr Barnett’s nomination for the presidency was unopposed. Mr G. R. Francis, who is at present manager of the Patea branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has been appointed manager of the Ashburton branch. Mr Francis was stationed at Ashburton for four years after the last war.
