EMPIRE YOUTH SUNDAY

GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM BRITAIN (0.R.) OAMARU, May 12. “On behalf of our young people celebrating Empire Youth Sunday throughout the British IsleS on May 16, I send a cordial message of greeting and goodwill to the youth of New Zealand about to join in the same act of Christian dedication and fellowship.” The foregoing has been cabled by Lord Elton, chairman of the Rhodes Scholarship Trustees and chairman of the Empire Youth Sunday Committee for Great Britain, to Mr Frank Milner, rector of Waitaki Boys’ High School, Oamaru, who has been asked by the Council of Education of Canada to take up the Empire Youth Sunday movement in New Zealand. The British Committee is representative of the churches, teachers’ associations, and youth committees of Great Britain. The Empire Youth Rally movement was inaugurated about five years ago in Westminster Abbey at a great gathering of 7000 young people, organised under Canadian auspices The objective is a fellowship of the youth of the Empire, dedicated to Christian ideals of service. His Majesty the King is patron of the movement for the Empire. In New Zealand, Youth Empire services have been held annually at Waitaki Boys’ High School for the last five years. In these services the Waitaki Girls’ High School has always cooperated. _____________
