TWO AIRMEN DECORATED
DISTINGUISHED FLYING MEDAL (P.A.) ’ WELLINGTON, May 13. Two recently-commissioned New Zealand airmen serving overseas in the R.N.Z.A.F. have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal. They are: Pilot Officer (formerly Flight Sergeant) William Arthur Hamilton. Mother, Mrs A. Hamilton, Kawhatau, Mangaweka; and Pilot Officer (formerly Sergeant) R. A. E. Jessop Taaffe. Father, Mr C. D. Taaffe, Hastings. The citations state that Pilot Officer Hamilton displayed high courage andhas shown exceptional navigational ability. His missions, which included a daylight attack on the U-boat yards at Danzig, have been mostly against heavily defended targets in Germany. Pilot Officer Taaffe has at all times pressed home his attacks with the utmost determination and courage and has scored many brilliant hits with bombs. Pilot Officer Hamilton was born at Kawhatau in 1914 and was educated at Wanganui Technical College. Pilot Officer Taaffe was born at Frasertown, Hawke’s Bay, in 1918. and was educated at the Hastings High School.
