SUPERANNUATION OF TEACHERS
AMENDMENT TO ACT During the year an important amend, inept was made to the Public Service Superannuation Act, to enable public servants to count their previous continuous temporary service on the payment of back contributions and interest. Reporting to the conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute in Christchurch yesterday, the executive stated that prompt representations were made to the Minister of Education (the Hon. H. G R. Mason) when it was seen that the amendment did not include the teachers' superannuation fund, especially as representations had been made to the Government on the question of broken service on many occasions. The Minister, it was stated, was not prepared to consider ail the types of cases represented under broken service. as that would have required a major Superannuation Bill, embracing all the superannuation funds. But he agreed that the recent amendment [should apply to the Teachers’ Superannuation Act. “Action will be taken immediately,” the conference was informed, “but the amendment will apply only to rationed teachers and uncertificated teachers who have had continuous temporary service.” • i The executive had .endeavoured to have the act altered so that retired | teachers who had returned to the ser- ' vice would not be subjected to a rej duction in their pensions.
