CLOSING OF NIGHT CLUBS IN N.S.W.
PREMIER GIVES REASONS (Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY. May 12. ‘‘Night clubs had been used as meeting places for enemy agents,’’ declared the New South Wales Premier (Mr W. J. McKell. "In these places they obtained information about troop and shipping movements." The Premier was explaining why he had issued regulations closing down certain night clubs. "The security of Australia is the purpose of the regulations," he added. "Night clubs and sly-grog shops are cess-pools of vice and have been a blot on our community life for years. They have helped considerably to destroy the efficiency of our fighting services. Military authorities are very disturbed about happenings in these places. They, together with the police, made representations for the issue of these regulations.” .
