WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

PENINSULA group meeting Mrs L M. Bailey (Le Bons Bay), group mnvener, presided at a meeting of the peninsula Women's Institutes, held at Duvauchelle. Mrs Bailey congratulated Miss V M Le Lievre, Akaroa, upon her election as president of the Canterbury Federation, and congratulated Mrs F. C. Newton upon being elected group convener, and asked them to join the others on the platform. It was decided that in future the meeting should be held in April to allow remits to be forwarded to the Canterbury Federation meeting, and also that the Akaroa Women's Institute be asked to tend in a remits to the Dominion Conference asking that business transacted as group meetings be made formal. Mrs Bailey read a paper on the hie cf Madame Chiang Kai-shek, A motion of thanks was passed to Mr A. T. Campbell, organiser of the Adult Education Scheme, Canterbury College, for forwarding the paper. A talk on flowers she had seen in other countries was given by Miss E. M. Le Lievre, who described the flora of Australia, the East, countries in Europe, and the British Isles. Pianoforte solos were played by Mrs Gordon Hammond, and recitations were given by Mrs D J. Narbey.
