GOVERNMENT OFFER OF £6OOO PLANT AT LINCOLN COLLEGE •A plant is to be established at Lin* coin College for the raising of eggs for commercial purposes during the war and for educational and research work m the industry after the war. At yesterday's meeting of the board of governors of the college, advice was received from the Director-General of Agriculture (Mr E. J. Fawcett) that a Government grant up to a maximum of £6OOO would be made available for the establishment of a poultry plant at the college. The grant was suojedt to two conditions only—that it should be used immediately for the production of eggs to be marketed through present approved channels, and that the poultry plant to be established would be used to the benefit of the poultry industry after the war as an educational and research centre operated in co-operation with the Department of Agriculture. The Director-Genera! of Agriculture asked for an acknowledgement of the board’s agreement, with the conditions upon which the money was being granted. i As_lhe matter was stated to be St J some urgency the offer had ' ccptcd by the sub-committee appointed and this action was approved by the board. The initial steps in establishing the plant and equipment were discussed and the point as to whether the grant was a straight out one or whether the erection of the building, etc., was to be undertaken by the department.
