BUILDING PERMITS FOR APRIL
LARGE INCREASE Last month, nearly five times as many building permits were issued bv the Christchurch City Council as in April, 1942, and the value of work* authorised increased by well over. £30,000. Last month. 141 permits for work estimated to cost £37,287 were issued, compared with 30 permits for work valued at £4433 in April, 1942. Details of the number of permits issued and the value of work authorised in the various wards of the city are as follows, comparative figures for April, 1942, being given in parenthesis: —New Brighton. 10, £528 Cone, £25); Central, inner area. 10, £7693 ffour, £1605): Central, outer area. 15, £2870 (six, £1008); St. Albans, 38. £11,740 (six. £685): Sydenham. 21, £6285 (four, £537): Linwood. 18. £3147 (five, £430); Soreydon. 20. £4034 (four, £145); Woolston, nine, £990 (none). Fees collected last month amounted to £3Ol, compared with £2B 15s in April, 1942.
