Mrs A. N. Grigg, M.P., who has been a patient in a private hospital at Christchurch, has returned to her home at Surrey Hills. The Ashburton Hospital Board decided yesterday to send her a letter expressing its sympathy and wishing her a quick recovery.

Dancing and musical items were enjoyed by members and friends of the Christchurch Central Townswomen’s Guild when they celebrated their fifth anniversary recently at the Scottish Hall. Guests of honour were Mrs Macallister (president of the Timaru Townswomen’s Guild), Mrs McKay (secretary), and Mrs Cross (treasurer).

The monthly meeting of the Bryndwr Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs Pattison, Clyde road, when members heard a talk on the work of the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association given by Miss Corkill. Three new members were enrolled. Balaclavas and mittens were handed in, and more wool for knitting was distributed. A display of antiques was shown. There was a good attendance of members and friends at the first social meeting of the year held by the Cambrian Society of Canterbury (Incorporated) at Hay’s lounge on Saturday night. Mr J. G. Parry presided, and the programme was opened with the singing of the Welsh National Anthem. Items were given by the following:— Miss Wendy Cameron and Mr John Cameron (piano solos and duets), Mrs D. Stewart, Mrs Whitworth, and Mr David Law (vocal solos). Miss Cameron (violin solos), Mrs Collins (recitations). Miss N. Nutt gave a travel talk.

Several members of the Oxford sub-branch of the Plunket Society who joined at its inception in 1922 were present at the twenty-first anniversary of the branch held recently. These included Mrs E. A. Woodfield. first president, and Mrs W. H. Evans, first secretary. Mrs L. M. King (Rangiora) presided. The annual meeting of the Redcliffs Ladies’ Bowling Club was held recently, when Mrs Thomas presided. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs Ladbrooke; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Truscott; committee, Mesdames Dixon, Stevens, and Olliver; match committee. Mesdames Thomas, Olliver, and Ladbrooke; delegate to centre, Mrs Thomas.
