THIS SEASON’S KILLINGS According to information from th# New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, killings of lambs at freezing works in the Dominion from October 1, 1942. t» April 18. 1943. totalled 9,144.855 carcases. compared with 9.260 859 carcase# to April 18 last season. This is a decrease of 115.974 carcases. Wether mutton killings totalled 463,276 carcases, and ewe mutton killings 1.473.093 carcases, compared with 696,134 and 1.735,125 carcases respectively last season.

Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and South Islands, with the number of carcases for the previous season in parenthesis, are as follows: North Island: Lamb. 5.208,767 carcases (5,149.704); wether mutton, 427,490 (634,218); ewe mutton, 1,079.083 (1.079.119). o „ llu South Island: Lamb, 3.936 L 8 (4.111.155); wether mutton. 35,783 (61.916); ewe mutton. 394.010 (656000). This season, the production of frozen beef has reached 306.489 quarters, compared with 266985 quarters last season. Porker killings total 70.232 carcases (a decrease of 72.710), and baconers total 82.572 carcases (a decrease or 127,211).
