CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW

HIGH STANDARD OF EXHIBITS “Such a splendid exhibition of chrysanthemums is in a great measure the result of the activities of the Canterbury Chrysanthemum Society, which has instituted instruction classes and competitions for the benefit cf members,” said Mr H. L. Darton, when declaring open the annual show of the society last evening. In all classes of the show entries were a marked improvement on last year’s exhibits in both quantity and quality, and the majority of exhibits were, in fact, of a higher standard than has been seen for several years. Single blooms shown were very fine, having form, colour, and depth, and the bowl section was most effective.

Mrs F. W. Sincock’s trophies, for chrysanthemums arranged for decorative effect, were won by Mrs L. M. Bunt and Mrs F. Williamson. Mrs O. M. Miller’s trophy, for a bowl of chrysanthemums was won by Mr L. J. Manson. Mr N. H. Brading won the H. L. Booth Challenge Cup and the champion blue ribbon for the best bloom in the show was awarded to his chrysanthemum, William Turner.
