PRICE OF HONEY

PRODUCERS SEEK INCREASE

It was decided at a convention of beekeepers, which was sponsored in Christchurch yesterday by the Canterbury branch of the National Beekeepers’ Association, that as sevenpence per lb pro rata for honey was insufficient to meet present-day rising costs, the Price Investigation Tribunal should revise the returns to producers in keeping with costs of production. Further, it was suggested, on the motion of Mr T. F. Penrose, of Leeston, that the tribunal should take into account good and had seasons. It was also decided, on Mr Penrose’s motion, that members of the convention should supply to the National president, Mr E. A. Field, of Foxton, through their respective branches, details as to costs of production in order to obtain an increased price for honey. The convention will be continued this morning at the Old Provincial Council Building when several papers of a technical character will be read. Delegates were entertained by members of the Canterbury branch at a social evening last night at the National Club rooms.

Ungraded honey is to be paid for on the same basis, the department determining itsvalue.
