The Builders’ end Contractors’ Association of Canterbury has elected the following officers:—President, Mr H. Brake; vice-presidents, Messrs E. R. Rastrick and L. H. Hannah; treasurer. Mr N. T. Webb; executive, Messrs Frank W. Allen. J. W. Graham, P. J. Hanrahan, J. B. Johns. H. G. Liebert, R. Lister, C. S. Luney, and W. P. Glue (as immediate past president). Mr J. L. Gichard, Deputy-Controller of Dehydration, Department of Agriculture, Wellington, is visiting Christchurch. He conferred yesterday with officials of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, and will leave for the south on Sunday. Mr E. A. Field, of Foxton, Dominion president of the National Beekeepers’ Association, is visiting Christchurch, and will remain here until the end of the week, when he will leave for Otago and Southland on a visit to branches of his association.

The Ashburton Technical School Board last evening stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Sergeant G. Knox, M.M., an old pupil of the school, who was recently killed in action.

Flying Officer “Mick” Breed, of Wanganui, who has been reported as a navigator, taking part in 45 raids in the Middle East, 24 of which were on the Tobruk “mail run.” is now instructing in England. Before joining the R.N.Z.A.F.. he was attached to the office staff of the Public Works Department at Westport, and had also represented Buffer in Seddon Shield Rugby fixtures.

Regret at the death of Mr John MacDougall, a member of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce for 25 yeafs, and sympathy with his relatives, were expressed by the council of the chamber last evening.
