HOSPITAL STAFF SHORTAGE

REMEDIAL MEASURES BY BULLER BOARD (P.A.) WESTPORT. May 5. Because of the staff shortage the Buller Hospital Board has given notice of drastic curtailment of hospital visiting hours. Though the hospital has been understaffed for some time, the position has rapidlv deteriorated and on Tuesday a crisis was precipitated when the staff, with the matron’s approval, stated that they would all do what some had done, walk off the job, un'ess remedial measures were taken. The reason given by the staff was the alleged impotency of the manpower service to prevent defections or take action against those who. having been dropped into this essential industry, were allowed to default.
