PERSONAL At the meeting of the Lyttelton E.P.S. Committee last night, the Mayor and Chief Warden (Mr F. E. Sutton) announced that he did not propose to seek re-election as Mayor at the municipal election to be held next year. E.P.S. Meeting At a meeting of the Lyttelton E.P.S. committee last night, the Chief Warden (Mr F. E. Sutton) welcomed Mr C W Carmody, postmaster at Lyttelton, who will have charge of communications. Mr J. Thompson, Acting-Town Clerk, was appointed secretary-organiser of the committee. " The resignation of Mr G. Daniel, transport controller, who is joining the Royal New Zealand Air Force, was received. The chairman praised Mr Daniel’s work, especially in the early stages of the scheme. The resignation was accepted with regret. Mr H. G. Ablett was. appointed transport controller. Examination Results The following pupils of St. Mary’s High School, Lyttelton, were successful in the commercial examinations of the National Business College, Sydney: Typewriting (junior grade): Aileen Gilmore, 97 per cent. Typewriting, speed: Selma Leeder, 46 words a minute; Camille Donahue, 45 words a minute. Shorthand, speed; Camille Donahue and Selma Leeder, 60 words a minute. Junior Government shorthandtypists’ examination: Janet Wilson. R.S.A. Meeting The finances of the Lyttelton Returned Services’ Association are in a very satisfactory state, according tqi. ghereport and balance-sheet presented at the annual meeting last night. This was largely because of the work of the ladies’ auxiliary of-the asShdSation in raising funds. It the finances in a healthy stat# for the many new members expected when the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force returned. The membership of the club was 143. Of these, seven were again on active service. Three evenings had been given to next-of-kin of -Lyttelton men and women on active service, and men from visiting overseas ships had been entertained on six occasions. On the proposal of the Lyttelton association, the gold badge of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association had last year been presented to the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes.

There was a good attendance of members and Mr M. J. Brown presided. A vote of thanks was’accorded the ladies’ auxiliary and to Mr and Mrs D. Taylor. Officers were elected as follows: — Patron, the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes; president. Mr M. J. Brown; vice-presi-dents. Mr D. Taylor; secretary, Mr A. E. Torrens; committee, Messrs C. Barnes, McDowell, J. Tissiman, J. Coxon, F. Forward, R. Currie, J. Lee, G. Geayley, D. McDonald; delegate to Christchurch association, Mr D. W. Russell. j. A proposal wiat burial in the returned services’ plot in the public cemetery should be restricted to members of the association was discussed, and the meeting decided to obtain a ruling from the War Graves Commission at Wellington.

New Brighton R.S.A.—Officers elected at the eleventh annual meeting of the New Brighton Returned Services’ Association were:—President, Mr T. Newman; vice-president, Mr E. W. Chadwick; honorary secretary, Mr L. F. Ebert; honorary treasurer, Mr J. E. Trainor; committee. Messrs T. W. Deverson. G. Dyer, C. R. White (2nd N.Z.E.F. members), E. Elder, H. Hall, and T. J, Quaid. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £375 11s Bd, with an excess of assets over liabilities of £2821 6s 7d. Mr E. Elder presided.
