EFFECT OF SOCIAL SECURITY LEGISLATION (P.A.) AUCKLAND. May 5. Friendly societies would have to wait until alter the war to determine the effect of social security legislation on them, said Mr N. J. McKay. Manchester Unity Grand Master for New Zealand. addressing the annual conference of the order in Auckland to-day. Difficulties had been faced and overcome before, he said, and the society had prospered. The social security legislation should be a spur to provide benefits to take the place of those given in the past. Mr J. L, Stewart, secretary of the order in New' Zealand, said that the credit union which the society had registered this week w'as a mutual society incorporated to promote thrift among members, provide an avenue for the profitable investment of savings. and to grant financial assistance when needed. .
