FRIDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvay, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS

Ope first offender for drunkennes, who did not appear, was fined 20s and another Who said he was subject to fits and was advised by the Magistrate to leave liquor alone, was fined 10s.

BICYCLES WITHOUT LIGHTS For riding bicycles without lights after darkness had set in, 14 offenders were charged. Defendants who did not appear were fined 10s and ordered to pay costs; others without reasonable excuse were fined 10s. and several were ordered to pay costs only. Offenders were dealt with as follows: Leonard Brown, Clarence Burnett, Thomas Greenall, Headley Colwill Hooper, Frederick George Miller, Raymond p. Murray, Samuel William Francis Needham, and William Turner, each fined 10s. The following were ordered to pay costs:—lan Munro, Raymond Maurice Bullen, David Heaps, Harold Trevor Whale, and Harold E. L. Collett.

CIVIL CASES (Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) Judgment by default was given for plaintiff in the following cases;— Gordon and Qotch (Australia), ltd., v. W. H. Laing, £7 15s; T. Champion and Company v. A. W. Cornwell, £4 Is; Cash Order Purchases, Ltd., trading as G, S. Morse Cash Orders v. I. Hamilton. £5 9s: Smith and Smith, Ltd., v. H. L. Wood, £2 Is; Rolleston Coal Depot v. S. J, McAlister, £1 0s Id; Drayton Jones, Ltd., v, A. Ellen, £l7 18s 9d; O. MoClatchje and Company, Ltd., v. L. Jones, £1 4s Bd. P. Woodhouse was given judgment for £24 12s 6d, and an order for possession against M. Dallow. T Moss was ordered to pay W, A. Poison, Ltd., the sum of £5 3s 4d forthwith, la default six days 1 imprisonment. BREACH OF AWARD (Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.)

The Inspector of Awards, Mr S. E. McGregor, claimed a penalty of £3O from Walter Victor Flute, Theatre Royal Cafe (Mr E. J. Burgess) for breaches under the New Zealand Tearooms and Restaurant Employees award for employing a head waitress and failing to allow her the statutory holidays, with failing to pay overtime, and with failing to keep a record of hours worked.

A plea of guilty was entered and defendant was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs.

JUVENILE COURT (Before Mr F. F. Reid. S.M.)

For riding bicycles at night without lights, two boys were each fined ss, another 2s 6d, and five were admonished and discharged. A boy of 11 years was charged with breaking and entering and theft at Sumner, and one of 10 years was charged with receiving the stolen goods, to the value of £1 ss. Both were admonished and discharged and warned that a further offence would be treated severely, For stealing two bunches of keys and other articles, a boy of 13 years was ordered to make restitution of £1 3s 9d, and placed under the care of the Child Welfare Officer for 12 months. Another youth appeared for sentence on a charge of damaging a lock on a golf club's pavilion. The case was adjourned for six months, and It was suggested that accused should find work in the country Restitution to the amount of 10s was ordered to be made.
