The position of Training College students in camp who, if released, can complete the rest of their training 0/ 18 months before attaining the age Of 21, has been clarified by a statement issued oy the Director of Education (Df. C. E. Beeby). Students pf I? and 19 years are already being released, following the decision of tpc Government to release from the Army men under 21 who want to return to their civilian occupations. These youths will be liable for remobijisatipn after they reach the age of 20, but if they have not then completed the minimum of 18 months' training necessary to obtain their C grade certificate, they may apply for their re-entry into camp to be postponed. Twenty-year-oid students in the Army who have not applied for the Navy or the Air Force, and would, if released, be able to complete their training before reaching the age of 21, are advised to apply to the local Education Board. The board, having referred to the student’s training record, will apply to the Education Department for reference to the Director of National Service (Mr J. S. Hunter). Steps will then be taken to §ecure the student’s rejease, providing that the Army is prepared to give effect to the recommendations of the Director of National Service.
