DESIGN OF MEMORIAL COTTAGES
DOMINION ARCHITECT CHOSEN \
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, -April 8. Mr Amyas Connell, of Eltham, is the architect for the cottages at the Papworth Village Settlement, which will be a memorial to the late Mrs Robert E. Strawbridge, of Philadelphia. United States subscribers sent the Queen £3350, which Her Majesty took with her when she examined the plans. She was photographed discussing them with the council. Mr Connell, who was born in Eltham in 1901, served his articles in a New Zealand architect’s office and went to England in 1924. He gained the Rome Scholarship for Architecture in 1926 and has travelled and studied extensively in European countries. Since he began practice in London in 1929 he has carried' out a wide variety of works in modern forms of construction. He is an associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
