STOCK EXCHANGES A QUIET DAY No sales were recorded on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, although an average number of sales were reported. A firming of prices was noticeable "In the loan and agency section, when buyers of National Mortgage “A” (cum dividend) advanced their bids to 535, and for the "B” issue of this company’s scrip 31s was offered. Likewise in the shipping section 49s 3d was offered for Huddart Parker, Ltd., ordinary. In the miscellaneous section a reported sale of Broken Hill Proprietary, at 425, revealed a firmer market, closing quotations being. 4is 9d buyers, 42s sellers, Kempthorne Prosser’s N.Z. Drug Company scrip also advanced in., price—buyers offering 86s 6d. Whitcombev and Tombs. and Weeks. Ltd., hadbuyers at unchanged rates. There was little variation In the mining section prices. MINING Rimu Dredge.—The return for the clean-up period from March 30 to April 6 was 200.6 crude ounces of gold from 89,796 cubic yards excavated in- 268 hours 17 minutes.
