Season For Opossums.—An Order-in-Council, declaring an open season for opossum trapping in South Canterbury from noon on June 1 to noon on August 1, had been gazetted, stated a letter received by the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society from the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs (Mr J. W. Heenan). Otlra Tunnel Freight.—Goods traffic railed through the Otira tunnel from the West Coast to Canterbury during the week ended on Saturday was 19,031 tons, compared with 12,511 tons in the corresponding week of last year and 15,993 tons for a similar period in 1941.
