TRAIN STRIKES TRUCK WOMAN SEVERELY INJURED (P.A.)’ INVERCARGILL, April 5. Severe injuries were suffered by Sergeant Marjorie Stout, a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps, when the truck she was driving was struck by a train from Tuatapere at the show grounds. The impact of the train turned the vehicle round facing th opposite direction and smashing portions of it severely. The truck was carried 40 feet, and when the train stopped Sergeant Stout was picked up beside the truck. She was taken to hospital suffering from concussion, severe head injuries, a fractured shoulder blade, fractured right ribs, and lacerations of the right leg. Sergeant Stout is a member of a wellknown Invercargill family. CAR AND TRUCK COLLIDE A head-on collision occurred early yesterday morning at the north end of the Ashburton traffic bridge between a truck driven by Leslie Millichamp, Tinwald, and a car driven by Gordon Hay,' Ashburton. Both vehicles were damaged, but no one was injured. CAR PASSENGERS INJURED AT ASHBURTON A motor-car driven by Ronald George Simpson, Ashburton, ran into a stationary car driven by John Hooper, Ashburton, on the Main South road between Hinds and Ashburton on Sunday night. Miss Gwen Waters, of Kermode street, Ashburton, aged 22, a passenger in Simpson’s car, received Injuries to her head, and was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital. Yesterday her condition was reported to be satisfactory. Miss Jean Simpson received slight injuries. Both cars were considerably damaged. BOY KILLED IN FALL FROM LORRY (P.A.) DANNEVIRKE, April 5. Leslie David Pearson, aged 15, while riding on the tray of a motor-truck on Saturday afternoon, was pushed from the vehicle by a heavy benzine drum as the truck turned a corner. The drum fell on Pearson’s head, which was severely crushed, and travelled end over end a distance of 42 feet, taking with it the boy’s body. Pearson was killed instantly. The truck driver was Mr William C. Carson, a bridge builder.
