U.S. MEDICAL CORPS OFFICER

NEW ZEALAND VISITED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 4. One of the senior officers of the United States Medical Corps, RearAdmiral William Chambers, has arrived in New Zealand from. Sydney. He was last here in October and November, and has been on an extensive tour of inspection of all the medical facilities of the south-west and south Pacific areas. He has visited medical facilities throughout the Solomons, New Hebrides, New Caledonia, and Australia. Rear-Admiral Chambers said he had found everything satisfactory. At the same time a vast improvement was taking place because of a new and improved procedure which was being employed, and improved installations which were being made. Rear-Admiral Chambers said that when he was on Guadalcanar in October and November he found a very different situation from the one which now prevails there. When he was last there hostilities were at their height, but now the island was a very peaceful place. Speaking of New Zealand, he said It was one of the most beautiful places he had ever visited. He said he could not speak too highly of the country or the people. The local naval hospital was one of the best in the entire south Pacific area. He had found that a large part of the structures had been made from local materials and with local labour. He felt that the excellence of the hospital was a tribute to the people of New Zealand.
