DAIRY PRODUCE FROM AMERICA

♦— — PRICES PAID IN ENGLAND MINISTER DENIES REPORTS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, March 8. Extravagant and absolutely incorrect was the description applied by the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. J. G. Barclay) in the House of Representatives to-day to a statement, which he said some newspapers had published, that America was receiving more for her dairy produce in Great Britain than New Zealand was. It had been a most upsetting influence, he said, and whoever had made the statement had done a great disservice to the country. The Minister said that according to that statement, New Zealand was getting Is 3.39 d per lb for butter from England and America was getting from England 2s lOd. New Zealand was said to be receiving 8.73 d as against Is 8., d received by the United States for cheese. If New Zealand had received the American payment mentioned, she would get £22,000.000 more for butter and £10,000,000 more for cheese. The Minister said he had cabled to England for the facts and had been informed that no butter was being shipped from the United States. Cheese from the United States was being bought for 6.27 d sterling, compared with 7.82 d received by New Zealand. To the United States forces in New Zealand, the Dominion supplied cheese at 7.43 d. he said.
