OBITUARY
SIR WILLIAM ARBUTHNOT LANE
LONDON, January 17,
The death has occurred of Sir William Arbuthnot Lane, who has been described as Britain’s “Grand Old Man of Surgery.” He was 85. Sir William was a noted surgeon and authority on health. After studying at Guy’s Hospital he became consulting surgeon to that hospital and to the Hospital For Sick Children. He was president of the New Health Society, and he was the author of much literature on the subject of diet and health management. He received a baronetcy in 1913.
