Akaroa.—The president, Mrs D. J. Narbey, presided at the January meeting of the Akaroa Women’s Institute, She reported that a presentation was being made to Mrs-C,. GgbbjUtt, the institute’s oldest member, who had left, the district. Mrs G. A. Hammond reported upon' the Canterbury Federation meeting, and the visit to the Peninsula <jf Miss ,Cocks*Johnston, who was giving a series Of lectures, on gardening and. home Science. Mss E.’ M. Le Lievre continued thfe Golden Thread' talks with a talk on the life of President Franklin Roosevelt. Songs , sung/ by Mrs G. A. E. Le Uevre. Mlss.Maisle Adams (Wellington), Gilpin (Wellington); Mrs* C.. o;;teaby'and. Miss A. Gilpin were, the accompanists. The competition- for the 1^- g* Christmas cake was won by ifrs Nsrhey.
