SEA CADET CORPS TRAINING

* COMBINED CAMP AT QUAIL

ISLAND Approximately 100 boys of the New Zealand Navy League Sea Cadet Corps went into camp at Quail Island yesterday for the first combined training operation io be carried out by the corps. The cadets are from the Canterbury, Wellington, and Otago divisions. The course will occupy 10 days, and the cadets will be trained in boat work, comprising the sailing and rowing of whalers, while a motor-boat will be operated by the cadets as a duty vessel between Lyttelton and the island. Instruction will also be given in practical seamanship, signalling, and musketry. This training will fit the cadets especially for entry into the Royal New Zealand Navy. Arrangements for the camp have been made by the Canterbury division of the corps, which is commanded by Lieutenant-Commander H. B. Anderson, R.N. (retired). The commanding officer is Lieutenant E. Collins. D.S.C. (Canterbury), and the -xecutive officer Lieutenant G. Robb (Otago). The camp coxswain will be Cadet Chief Petty Officer N, Roydhousc. who is the only sea eadel boldine such rank in the corps in New Zealand. Members of the executive of the Canterbury branch of the Navy League will visit the camp on Wednesday.
