The Woolbrokcrs’ Association announced to-day that proceeds of the November appraisement were £271,722 and of the December appraisement wore £264,477, making a total wool return so far this season of £590,864 for 31.065 bales. The chairman of the association (Mr 11. Duke) said that an extended season was likely because of labour problems. The wool was light and not so bright as lasi season. There were three appraisements to come, and a possible fourth in May. The season should approach the 1942 record of 103,500 bales valued at £ 1,770,742. BURNSIDE (P.A.) DUNEDIN, January 13. At the weekly stock sale at Burnside there was more interest in the fat beef market than last week. The sale opened firmly at last week’s rates and there was a gradual improvement as it progressed. Prices towards the end showed an increase of from 30s to 255. The best price was £2l 12s Gd. Good quality cows made up to £l2 7s Gd. and heifers, which were in short supply, brought up to £ll 12s Gd. Prime ox were sold at from £lB 7s (id to £2l. Approximately 2500 fat sheep were entered, including a number of pens of poor quality. The sale lacked the animation of the previous week and prices in all classes were easier by 2,s to 4s a head. Prime wethers made up to 27.s Gd, while best quality ewes brought up to 295. There was a large yarding of fat lambs, including a number of pens of choice quality. Butchers and export buyers competed freely and prices were firm throughout at full schedule rates. Best quality lambs made up to 29s 9d, while prime lambs sold from 26s to 28s. The yarding of pigs was larger than last week, about 240 being offered, Included in the offering were some choice baconers. These were firm to a shade better than last week, while porkers also showed improvement. Best baconers brought £5 16s. while baconers generally could he quoted from £4 17s to £5 Gs. Best porkers sold at £4 2s. Porkers generally could be quoted from £2 14s to £2 18s. There was a keen onmpelilion for store cattle, farmers compclmg for any classes showing quality. Three-year-old steers sold at £l2 2s, while two pens of Black Polls made £lO.
