TRAIN TRAPPED BY BOMBER
ATTACK ON RAILWAY TUNNEL (8.0. W.) RUGBY. Dec. 10. The Air Ministry has described how a Mosquito bomber successfully bombed a railway umnel 40 miles north-west of Paris at dusk yesterday. The pilot, a squadron leader, was briefed to place a bomb in the mouth of the tunnel itself. Flying along the track, the pilot released a bomb with short-delayed action and then lifted his machine over the tunnel. This bomb was seen to skid right into the tunnel. A second bomb aimed at the tunnel hit the stone work around the mouth.
The pilot then flew east to the other entrance of the tunnel and saw a train entering. He bombed the track and Hew back again to the west entrance whore black smoke was drifting out of the tunnel. He waited for 10 minutes, but the train did not reappear.
