TROTTING NOTES

Forbury Park Meeting The acceptances received for the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting, to be held on Saturday, reveal well-bal-anced fields of good class horses, and if results of recent racing can be taken as a guide this meeting should be one of the most successful in the history of the club, In the King George Handicap a Held of J3 is likely to go to the post. The back-marker, Pleasant Guy. Is set to give away 60 yards, and the remainder are separated by the short limit of 24 yards. Even from 60 yards behind Pleasant Guy’s chances cannot be altogether ignored, for she has enough speed to get into a good position early in the race. The Forbury Park track of five furlongs does not favour a back-marker as a rule, and Pleasant Guy’s chances will depend upon the early speed shown by the limit horses. A slow race will be all in her favour. Sabu, whose recent form has been of a high standard, and who is already spqken of as a possible winner of the Auckland Cup. is, handicapped on 24 yards behind, a handy mark for one of iiis proved speed and stamina. He should have little difficulty in accounting for others on this mark with the exception of Countless, who may improve on the very creditable showings he made at Addington earlier in the month. He then finished third in the Intermediate Championship in 2min 39 4-ssec. and third in the Metropolitan Handicap in 4min *3 3-ssec. The only horse on 12 yards is Single Star, a winner at Addington in 4min 21sec —a performance good enough Twin most races. The limit division ineludes two that have shown outstanding form in Glenarrif and Shadow Maid, and while the latter is one of the most consistent pacers racing, Glenarrif Is irnproying with every race. Speculation (n this event will take a wide range, but tne early favourites may be Countless, Sabu, and Glenarrif. Good Class Sprinters Burt Scott, on 12 yards behind, is nicely nlaced in the Churchill Handicap, and the distance of a mile and three furlongs should suit him nicely, He is set to meet a very select field, however, and on 24 yards behind Is Haughty, who, besides winning the New Zealand Cup, finished second to Gold Bar in the Free-for-All in 2min 35 2-ssec. She is such a good stayer that she must be regarded as a possible winner of this race. The limit division is particularly strong, with (he presence of Countless Coquette. Pleasant Guv Sabu. and Shadow Maid engaged. On form Haughty, Burt Scott, and Sabu may be the favourites. Unhopplcd Trotters The Artillerv Handicap, of a mile and a half and the Dominion Handicap of two miles, are the same class of race, and ail the horses entered claim dual engagements and are handicapped on the same marks. In each race El Peta is asked to give away 96 yards, and the class he now meets is much lower than he has been accustomed to race In. He would 0017 form to fill a place, although a handicap have to trot steadily and repeat his best of 90 yards will demand a h!gh**?rflne performance. At one time Helen Scott. 60 vards. looked like developing Into a trotter of the best class, but her unsteadiness of gait has cost her several races. Her trainer. R. Townley, however, is patient, and a master in correcting the faults of unhoppled trotters, and Helen Scott Is tlie type to respond to correct treatment. Suspense has not been prominent for some time; hut both Cockney and Parfaite are improvers, and Millie Wrack's running at the last Greymnnth meeting was suggestive of still bettor things to come. Maori Toa is a prospect, but Tall Timber will have to show more steadiness before he can be backed with confidence. The best prospects appear to be Millie Wrack. Maori Toa, and Helen I Scott. I
