Sub-Lieutenant J. R. White, only son of Mr and Mrs J. W. White. 52 Springfield road, Christchurch, who has received his wings and commission, was trained in the United States and Canada for the Fleet Air Arm. He is an old boy of St. Bede’s College, the Christchurch Teachers’ Training College, and Canterbury University College. Housewives' Union.—At last evening's meeting of the Canterbury Housevives’ Union executive, gratification was expressed at the response by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D, G. Sullivan, to the appeal of housewives for an increased supply of sugar. Concern was felt that it covered only the month of December, and not the whole of the jam and fruit bottling season,
