SENIOR COMPETITIONS CONTINUED The second round of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s senior men s and women’s competitions was played at Wilding Park on Saturday afternoon in exceilent tennis weather. The necessity for dividing the men’s grade, with its very large entry of service teams, into two sections was emphasised by the onesidedness of some of the matches, although others were very well contested. It is the association’s intention to divide the competition after the next round. Results were as follows: — Senior Men E.F.S. v. Wlgram.—H. Dymond beat C. H Fenwick. 6-2, 6-4; J. H. Silvester beat J. Appleyard, 6-1, 6-1; D. G. Silvester beat B. Lord, 6-2, 6-0; T. MacFarlane beat J. Cox, 6-2, 6-3; Dymond and J. H. Silvester beat Fenwick and Appleyard, 6-3, 7-5; D. G. Silvester and MacFarlane beat Cox and Lord, 6-2, 6-4. E.F.S. won 6-0 Training Depot v. C.Y.C. A.—M. J. Souter beat V. E. Hickman. 6-2, 6-3; B. A. Barrer beat M. L. Stringer, 6-2, 6-0; R. CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD A decision to hold an open and handicap tournament at Wilding Park at Christmas was reached by the management committee of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association at a meeting at the week-end. It was stated that the present method of rationing balls for the interclub competitions would enable sufficient to be retained for a tournament The support given by the services to the grade competitions led the committee to believe that a tournament over Christmas would be welcomed by many players In the forces as well as club players and the” public. • The tournament will be held bn Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday, December 28, 28.: and 29, and will include provincial championship events for juniors.
