RENEWED UNREST IN EUROPE

INTENSIFIED GERMAN TERRORISM LONDON, Nov. 20. The Allied invasion of North Africa is resulting in renewed unrest throughout Europe. The Germans, since the beginning of the North African campaign, have been intensifying .the terror in Bohemia and Moravia to stifle increased resistance. On an average three Czechs were executed daily in October and 57 were shot or hanged in the first week of November. Industrial sabotage has increased, and the puppet government is disturbed about the Slovaks’ scarcely concealed jubilation over the Allied successes. Complete German divisions have arrived in Croatia to deal with a new revolt in Jugoslavia. Several more provinces have joined the resistance, and new territory daily breaks away from the Pavelic Quisling regime. German troops are undertaking _ bigscale operations against the patriots. Guerrillas derailed a German goods train carrying, building material for Dalmatian coastal fortifications. Explosives carried in the train blew up the whole cargo and killed 26 German soldiers. A message from Stockholm says that a clean-up campaign has begun in Alsace to stamp out anti-Nazi Germans and German defeatists. Four prominent Nazis have been expelled and the activities of all Germans there are being investigated. Gauleiter Wagner, addressing a Nazi convention at Strasbourg, said that Alsace must not become a haven for Nazi defeatists who expected the Americans to show up there. The Berlin radio states that 15 persons have been sentenced to death at Bruges for espionage and for "maintaining a friendly attitude to the enemy.” Sabotage is markedly affecting the output of German war plants, says a Stockholm newspaper. The production of aeroplanes, it is believed, does not exceed 3000 a month. One thousand Russian prisoners of war employed in the Krupp works at Essen incapacitated themselves by rubbing their hands with sandpaper and poisoning the scratches. The Germans threatened to execute anyone repeating the ruse.
