WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION
Harewood.—The November meeting of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Migrated Road Hall, Mrs Orchard presiding. Soldiers’ parcels were packed and forwarded to local men overseas. A donation was made to the provincial housekeeping fund. Competition results were as follows: Single bloom: Mrs Lynn 1, Mesdames Preece and Mehrtens 2. Vase of flowers: Mrs Hardy 1, Mesdames Moore and Collison (equal) 2. Jam tarts: Mrs Collison 1, Mrs Preece 2. Coat hanger; Mrs Collison 1, Mrs Seymour 2. Hostesses were Mesdames Collison, Hayton, and Watson. Mcthven.—M.s A. W. Wilson presided at the ino"th'y meeing of the division held recently.. It was decided that instead of the usual garden party an afternoon social sho> Id be held on December 2 for the nex 1 of kin of Methven soldiers serving t. verseas. After the meeting members were shown through the linen flax facloiy. Belfast B.S.A.—A talk was given at the monthly meeting of the Belfast subbranch of the Returned Services’ Association by- Mr R. G. Brown, of Christchurch, on his experiences on a trip abroad, which included a visit to the old battlefields of Flanders and northern France. The president (Mr E. T. Wilson) was appointed delegate to the conference to be held in Christchurch to discuss the question on manpower. The lady editor of “The Press” gratefully acknowledges receipt of a packet of used stamps from an anonymous friend.
