UNDER THE TRANSPORT CONTROL EMERGENCY REGULATIONS, 1942. the Christchurch Committee, whose jurisdiction extends over the Waimairl and Heathcote Counties, part Paparua, Haiswell and Mt. Herbert Counties, together with all Boroughs and Town Districts situated therein, directs that the ioi* lowing conditions ‘ are to be observed concerning the cartage of live stock: l. UP. TO THE 15th FEBRUARY NEXT, all fat lambs arc to be driven to the nearest railway station, freezing works, or saleyards, but they may be lorried from beyond five miles of any of these points, always provided that no lambs will be lorried past any railway station unless such railway station is within five miles of a freezing works or saleyards. AFTER THE 15th FEBRUARY the distance will be extended to nine miles. 2 That in all cases where the distance 1 by road and rail Is more than one third over the distance by road, the • distance by road shall be regarded as the distance of the haul, provided that a haul of not more than 30 miles is involved— , , . i 3. ALL STORE LAMBS must be driven, but In exceptional cases where there r are no facilities for droving, the Com--1 mlttee shall have discretion to issue . permits for lorrying 4. No sheep to be lorried except up to 20 to complete a final load of lambs or other stock. In exceptional circumstances ewes with young-lambs at '" foot may be lorried by permit from ■ the Committee. 5. Provided alternative transport is impracticable or unavailable rams and stud ewes may be carried by lorry to or from a stud sheep sale or from j farm to farm. 6. No cattle may be lorried except; , (a) Bulls other than boners and potters. (b) Dairy cows in milk or close to > profit for a distance over five miles subject to a permit being obtained 1 from the Committee. 7. Bobby calves, vealers, and pigs must i . be lorried to the nearest railway trucking station or may be lorried to the i nearest freezing works or saleyards if alternative transport Is unavailable or impracticable. 8. Owners of car trailers and light trucks carrying “L” plates may cart to or from any saleyard their own stock, but only within their own petrol licences. 9. In the event of a carrier collecting small consignments of vealers and pigs and his round terminates within nine miles of his destination he may cart to that destination. NOTES: In all cases lorry-drivers and lorry-users must endeavour to see that a full load is carried. In order to avoid empty running, small lots of sheep and cattle may be back-loaded to or from a . saleyard. In the foregoing whether either freezing works or saleyards are mentioned, it is not intended to indicate the destination of the stock.
