COMFORTS FOR MEN IN NAVY
A LETTER FROM LONDON
The Navy League, Christchurch, has received from Admiral Sir Sydney R. Fremantle. London (through the Wellington office), the following letter: "Many thanks for your consignment, in which you again send us, among other things, a large proportion of pullovers at a time when they are badly wanted. "We find it very satisfactory that you have been able to keep up your suoplies to us, by which we set great store, in spite of—as I feel sure must be the case—more ships of the Royal Navy being based on New Zealand. "I am looking forward to the return of my cousin, Commodore Parry, whom no doubt you have met, to give me the news of our New Zealand branches. Judging by the support they have given us in this war, there can be no keener upholders of the principles of the Navy League anywhere in the Empire. “During the war we can do no mpre than we are doing, which is to make our comforts supply as comprehensive as possible, and to administer our very much enlarged Sea Cadet Corps, but I feel sure that the testing time will come for the Navy League after the war, when we shall be tired out and impoverished and at the same time faced with the necessity for securing the defence of the Empire by a strong Navy which maintains our communications, and makes it possible for the other fighting forces to carry out their functions.”
