STOCK EXCHANGES CHRISTCHURCH VALUES MAINTAINED The demand for good class investments was maintained yesterday on the Stock Exchange with no noticeable weakening at the close of the week’s business, a feature of which was the interest displayed in banking shares. Sales on ’Change: Listed Stocks.— £4oo Liberty Loan, 3 p.c„ 1952-55, £9B 12s 6d; 100 Taranaki. Oilfields, 6s. Sale Reported: Listed Stock.—£66oo 3>/ 4 p.c. Ins., 1957-60 stock. £IOO 15s. All Government stock issues are firm on buyers’* prices, which have not changed during the week. The turnover in the banking section was the highest for some weeks, and while some issues fluctuated others improved in value. This was noticeable in Bank of New Zealands, Commercial Bank of Australia, and Bank of New South Wales. National Bank of New Zealand, which rose sharply to 455, closed easier at 44s 6d buyers, 44s 9d sellers. Buvfrs of Union Bank of Australia have been steady at £7, but this banks scrip is scarce. Loan and Agency section also attracted attention, United Building closing firmer at 21s lOd buyers. 23s sellers (cum dividend). Shipping and frozen meat shares have been ln . c ° ns . ta , n L mand without selling support, but interest in Kaiapol woollens (ex dividend) has eased slightly. Breweries shares were again freely quoted with little variance in quotations, and this applies to an extent in the miscellaneous section. Australian securities had good inquiry at prices nearer Australian markings New Zealand securities have also been in a®mand, but scrip for New Zealand Drug Company and Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd., is scarce, the latter improving on buyers’ quotations to 70s 6d at the close. there was no material change In the mining section, and the sales list has been very small. latest quotations Municipal Debentures.—Christchurch Trams, 41 p.c.. 1/8/51. s. £109; Banks Peninsula Eectric Power Board, 41 p.c., 1/4/53, s. £lO9 10s. .... - „ Company Debentures.— Auckland Gas, 3j p c Perp.
