PATRIOTIC FUND APPEAL
£176,387 SUBSCRIBED in week;
PROVINCIAL TOTALS (P.A.) WELLINGTON. August 16. “During the week ended Saturday New Zealand subscribed a total of £176,387 to patriotic funds,” said the secretary (Mr G. A. Hayden) of the National Patriotic Fund Board tonight. He added that jhe result was very good. The radio and telephone appeal on Saturday night had brought in a substantial increase of £54,079. The largest. amount, £14,335, came from Wellington. ' . No province has yet raised its -ull quota, but Hawke’s Bay was nearest with 86.3 per cent, - The provincial totals for the current year's campaign with the percentages of the quotas, and with the amounts raised in the radio and telephone appeal shown in parenthesis are now:— Hawke’s Bay, £57,902. 86.3 per cent. (£3902) 1 Otago’ £115,938. 77.2 per cent. (£7888). ' Nelson. £27,390, 76 per cent. (£1390). Westland, £10.649. 76 per’ cent. (£435). ‘ 4 Southland, £45,665. 74.8 per cent. (£4905). Wellington, £143,615, 66.7 per cent. (£14,335). Marlborough, £BB4O. 58.9 per cent. (£740). East Coast, £13,822, 51.9 per, cent. (£1172). Taranaki, £45,952, .45.9 per cent. (£5852). Auckland, £189,986, 37.8 per cent. (£6710).
SALE OF COUPONS IN CHRISTCHURCH
For the four days during which coupons have been on .sale in Christchurch £B7O had been raised by noon on Saturday, Mr R. L. Ashley, secretary of the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council, reported last evening. This did not include any figures from country districts in Canterbury, he said. The drive in the Canterbury district will continue for two more days, closing in the city and in the country districts at 5 p.m. to-morrow.
