ARMY PUBLICITY IN U.S.

REORGANISATION ORDERED

WASHINGTON, August 14. The Secretary of War (Mr H. L. Stimson) has announced a reorganisation of the War Department’s various public relations organisations as a step to eliminating the issue of conflicting statements by the various services branches. Mr Stimson said that the realignment had been decided upon before the release, of a picture purporting to show ground markings alleged to have been contrived by fifth columnists but which proved to have been in no way connected with enemy plans. Mr Stimson admitted, however, that the Mitchell Field air markers incident had made him happy that he had taken action. > Mr Stimson was obviously aroused by a ludicrous faux pas which has been described as “the great air marker hoax," and which was perpetrated by an over-zealous Army press agent. Mr Stimson said that he had made a personal request to General Hugh A. Drum to make a thorough investigation.
