SOUTH CANTERBURY V. ASHBURTON

The first representative Rugby match of the season at Timaru was played in fine weather on Saturday, when Ashburton and South Canterbury each scored 12 points in a drawn game. Both teams had large complements of third graders to make up full teams. Hokitika arrived with only 10 men, and drew on local ’ third grade teams for the remaining five. Roberts, Blair, and Leitch scored tries for the winners, Goodall converting one. For Hokitika, Kinder and Wilson scored tries, Atkinson converting one. Celtic had a decisive win over Blaketown seniors' by 15 points to 3. The winners were slightly superior in both backs and forwards. For Celtic, Mlllett, Lloyd, and Pomeroy scored tries, and O’Callaghan kicked two penalty goals. For Blaketown, Furness scored a try. Cobden easily defeated Army seniors by 28 points to 3.
