STATEMENT OF ASSETS AND LIABILITIES

Following is a statement cf assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand at the close of business on August 10, with the corresponding figures in the previous statement in parenthesis:— Liabilities.—General Reserve Fund, £1,500,000 (£1,500,000); bank notes, £26,178,078 (£25,923,054); demand liabilities; State, £13,348,996 (£15,921,848); banks. £22,138.170 (£19,077,319); other, £641,023 (£1,499,900); liabilities in currencies other than New Zealand currency, £12,816 (£32,905); other liabilities, £1,203,658 (£1,191,289). Total: £ (N.Z.)65,022,740. Assets.—Reserve: Gold, £2,801,878 (£2,801,878); sterling exchange in New Zealand currency, £25,732,587 (£24,668,845); subsidiary coin, £56,797 (£28,250); advances to the Marketing Department, £8,699,181 (£9,999,955); for other purposes. £22,300,000 (£22,300,000); investments, £4,146.340 (£1,201,048); other assets, £1,285,957 (£1,201,048). Total:. £(N.Z.)65,022,740 (£65,146,315). Proportion of reserve to notes and other demand liabilities: 45.777 per cent. (43.955 per cent.). i _____ MINING Slab Hut.—The return for the week ending August 13. 1942, was 530z from 14,650 yards in 117 hours. Austral New Zealand Mining.—The Austral New Zealand Mining Company reports that for the four weeks ended August 8 its dredge worked 442 hours, treating 248,000 yards, which yielded 4160z. Okarito Dredge.—The Okarito return is 31oz 13dwt in 112 hours. Argo Dredge.—The Argo dredge was offered at auction at the dredge site, Blackball Creek, but the reserve was not reached by any of the prospective buyers and the dredge was passed in.
