HOSPITAL FOR SOLDIERS

SITE OFFERED AT GERALDINE (0.R.) GERALDINE, August 14. A section on the hill, overlooking the township of Geraldine, will be offered to the Minister of Health (the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer) for a site for a convalescent hospital for soldiers. This decision was made by the Geraldine Borough Council following the acceptance by the council of a gift of a section adjoining a council reserve in Barker street.

"This district has many special advantages for such a hospital.” said the Mayor (Mr D. C. McKechnie). Geraldine was known as a health and holiday resort throughout the South Island and was easy of access both from Christchurch and Dunedin.

A special committee, consisting of the Mayor and Deputy-Mayor (Mr P. H. Davis) and the chairman of the reserves committee (Mr A. J. Burmestcr) will take the matter up with Mr J. Acland, M,P„ and invite the Minister of Health to visit Geraldine at an early date for the purpose of discussing the matter.

Congestion of Traffic The congestion of traffic which delayed the arrival of the rail-car from Christchurch on Thursday morning continued throughout the day, and the Midland express was 23 minutes late in reaching Greymouth, although it made up 17 minutes after leaving Springfield. Traffic was back to normal yesterday.
