RUSSIAN COMMUNIQUE LONDON, August 13. The Russian communique records a slight German advance In one part of the Klctskaya sector. The Russians north-east of Kotelnikov and south of Voronezh improved their positions. Fierce battles were fought a I Krasnodar and heavy engagements in the Maikop and Cherkesk areas against German tank and mechanised forces. “Red Star” says the Russians in one sector at Maikop withdrew into the strategic hills. The Germans broke through one sector in the Cherkesk region, forcing the Russians to withdraw to new lines. The Russians gained fresh ground in the Voronezh area, capturing considerable booty and prisoners. EGYPTIAN FRONT LONDON, August 13. To-day’s Cairo communique says that on Tuesday night Allied patrol activities continued. Some prisoners were taken in the southern sector. Yesterday land operations were confined to artillery exchanges. Air activity was on a reduced scale.
