TUBE GOSSIP

Metropolitan Trotting Club Nominations for all events at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting on August 29 will close on Tuesday next, 18th Inst., at 5 p.m. —6 Schooling at Riccarton The promise of some interesting schooling attracted a large number of spectators t6 Riccarton yesterday morning. Pekoe (A. Jenkins), Kanui te Pal (J. Williamson, and Foxiara (D. Redstone) were companions o v er six hurdles. Foxiana hesitated slightly at the first, but when he settled down to the somewhat strange task set him he cleared each obstacle in his stride, and was always in front, his only blemish being at the last fence, to which he got a little too close. Kanui te Pai gave his usual dashing display, but Pekoe was not as impressive as his mates. Pekoe had the biggest weight, and was conceding Foxiana about two stone, while next Saturday he will be receiving more than two stone from him.

Heidelberg (C. Low), Distress Signal (L. Burnard) kept abreast throughout a task over four hurdles, with Llckem (M. Holland) always tailed off. Over Country The only jumping over the Inside steeplechase fences was by Valantua (I. Walther), Night Scout (R. Heasley), and Sir Hugh (Holland), who were sent over the three brush fences in the straight,, alj shaping well. -Starting Times Starting times for Saturday’s programme will be as follows:—11.2 a.m., Hunt Cup: 11.52, Sumner Handicap: 12.37 p.m., Lincoln Steeplechase: 1.22, Woolston Handicap; 2.7, Grand National Hurdle Race; 2.52, Spreydon Hurdle Race; 3.37, Islington Handicap; 4.22.
