COMPULSORY MEDICAL OPERATIONS
Sir.—lt is my humble opinion that the time has arrived when the military authorities should call a halt on compulsory operations for varicose veins on men being called up for service. It would be very interesting indeed to learn how many young men in the Dominion have been butchered and maimed for life through .having been compelled to subject themselves to this very unsatisfactory and doubtful method of cure. No medical officer will guarantee a definite cure, but the powers that be still demand that any potential soldier must, if suffering with this complaint, undergo an operation in the hope (no guarantee) of being cured.—Yours, etc., VENOUS.
