WEDNESDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) SPEARED TROUT
A fine of £lO was imposed on John Arthur Sharpe, a tractor-driver, aged 21. of Burnham, for spearing trout. Mr M. J. Gresson, who represented the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, said that a ranger had seen accused with a party of soldiers spearing trout in the Selwyn river near the Norwood bridge. The ranger gave chase and caught Sharpe with a bag of 24 trout. HOUSING OFFENCES Ellen Glover, owner of property at 131 Lyttelton street, was charged with erecting a new building and adding to an existing building without a permit. The builder, John J. Line, was similarly charged. For the Christchurch City Council, Mr H. S. Clarke said an endeavour was being made to prevent slum conditions. It had been found that the buildings in question had been used for sleeping accommodation. . . ,
The defendant was the victim of circumstances in that her son had ordered all the alterations, said Mr A. T. Bell. Defendant was charged, being the owner. Glover was fined £lO on each charge and the builder (Line) was fined £5 on each charge. THEFT CHARGES
Tawhiorangi Smiler, a labourer, aged 22, who earlier had been sentenced on 21 various charges in the Supreme Court, was convicted and discharged on three charges of theft.
