HOSPITALS FOR RETURNED MEN

HANMER SPRINGS AND ROTORUA

NO PURCHASES IN CITIES

“All the information available indicates that the hospital accommodation at Rotorua and Hanmer Springs will be sufficient to deal with soldiers returning from this war,” said the Minister of Health (the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer) last evening when he denied reports that the purchase of large residential properties in various centres had been made to accommodate soldiers.

Mr Nordmeyer said reports of increased accommodation being necessary had probably arisen from the building of convalescent hospital blocks at places outside Christchurch, Auckland, and Wellington. Two of these hospitals would be used by members of the New Zealand Army for convalescence after discharge from treatment in public hospitals, or for treatment while still in camp. The building of the hospital at a Canterbury camp had been held up, said the Minister, but progress was now reported. It was not proposed to acquire homes in the city as hospitals -for men returning from overseas service.
