WAIMAKARIRI RIVER TRUST
A further inspection of the south bank of the Waimakariri river for the possibility of flood damage in the West Melton district was arranged foi 1 next Monday at the meeting of the Waimakariri River Trust held at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, when Mr C. T. Aschman, chairman, presided. Buildings on the former Harewood golf course would be disposed of by sale for removal, said the report of the reserves committee, this decision being made in preference to spending the money necessary to make the premises suitable for letting purposes. An offer from the Railway Department of £250 towards the cost of protective work above the bridge at Stewart’s Gully was accepted. The sub-committee appointed at the last meeting of the trust to inspect a bulldozer recommended that the machine should be purchased, subject to the company selling it giving a six months’ guarantee in writing. The-annual donation of £5 5s was granted for the Canterbury Progress League, and Mr W. P. Spencer was reelected to the league as representative of the Trust.
