'STOCK EXCHANGES LOCAL MARKET ACTIVE Buyers maintained their interest on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, in almost all stocks called and prices remained at last week's closing rates. The sale in the Government stock section of the 2J per cent. War Loan, due 1/8/46, was at the unchanged price of £9B ss. Buyers of Liberty Loan 2J per cent. 1947, extended their bids to £96 15s, without attracting sellers. Buyers offered £9B 5s for 3 per cent. Liberty Loan, 1955, but sellers did not declare. Several parcels of local body debentures changed hands. Insurance, Loan, and Agency, and Shipping shares had good inquiry, but sellers remained wide of buyers’ quotations. In the frozen meat grcup New Zealand Refrigerating (£1 paid) advanced to 22s buyers, without' sellers, otherwise prices were unchanged. Woollen and coal shares had keen buyers, Kaiapol (7s paid) being wanted at 7s 4d, against last local sale of 7s 3d, and Mosgiel £5 paid shares- paid up to £4, advanced to £ll 10s, but sellers were reticent. In the miscellaneous section, McKenzie's Department Stores were firmer at 39s 6d buyers, _ 40s 6d sellers. New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. "A" Preference, sold at the buyer’s price of 30s, and more \yere on offer at 355. All other stocks remained firm at late rates. In the mining sections. Placer Development had buyers at 38s, sellers asking 40s —the last sale of this stock was at 38s 3d. Auckland Gas Dividend.—The Auckland Gas Company is paying an unchanged interim dividend of 12 per cent. Canterbury Saleyards.—Canterbury Saleyards, Ltd., has declared an Interim dividend of 21 per cent., payable on and after July 22.

STOCK SALES

PLEASANT POINT (P.S.S.) TIMARU, July 20. The race of fat sheep at the Pleasant Point sale comprised mostly ewes of good quality, there being only an odd pen of wethers forward. Because of the Short supply values for wethers Improved by 2s a head on late rates, but prices >£or ewes eased by Is 6d a head for late rates. Prime wethers made td 45s 4d; medium, 38s Id to 40s 4d; prime ewes, 25s to 28s Id; medium, 21s 4d to 24s Id; light and unfinished, 16s 4d to 18s lOd. The small yarding of cattle contained some pens of good quality steers. For these there was a good inquiry and values hardened slightly on ■ late rates. Prime steers made £ls 17s 6d to £8 12s 6d, and light to medium, £l2 2s 6d to £l4 12s 6d; medium heifers, £9 to £ll 2s 6d; medium cows, £7 2s 6d to £9 12s 6d. All classes of store sheep sold under spirited competition and values were fully firm on late rates. Best Romney ewe hoggets made 30s 3d; medium,'2ss 6d; medium wether hoggets, 19s 9d; medium twoi-tooth ewes 30s; good fullmouth Romney ewes, 24s 9d; small ewes, four to eight-tooth, 18s.
